LA PASSIONE for<br> MOVISTAR TEAM
A new chapter is about to begin.
From January 1, 2022 La Passione officially becomes technical partner of Movistar Team, one of the most prestigious and longest-running professional teams of the UCI WorldTour and the Women's WorldTour. And to mark this important chapter, the design of the jerseys featuring the new colors and official graphics has finally been unveiled.
An important milestone for everyone involved. In Manerba del Garda and Lugano offices, enthusiasm is in the air. La Passione founders Yurika Marchetti and Giuliano Ragazzi, together with the entire La Passione team, have been working tirelessly as the year draws to a close, in these busy days marked by the normal routine filled with appointments, meetings and daily commitments. Yet something special – a contagious enthusiasm – can be clearly felt within the company.
More than a new principle or a turning point, I would define it as a new chapter in our history, an important passage, Giuliano affirms. “We began working on this important partnership seven months ago.”
Athletes from both the men’s and the women’s UCI World Tours of the caliber of Alejandro Valverde, Enric Mas, Annemiek van Vleuten and Emma Norsgaard will be just some of the champions who will wear the technical clothing designed and produced for them next season. The kit, featuring the same colors and design, will be worn by both the men's and women's teams and by the eTeam that will compete in the Zwift Racing League and other e-cycling events.
“The preliminary research before we began working on the design and the colors – explains Yurika – was that of retracing the 41 years of history of the Abarca Sports teams, analyzing the different graphics, colors, shades and chromatic combinations used in the past”.
Putting the more than forty jerseys used by the teams from the beginning of its history side by side, one color certainly stood out: the constant deep blue, a color used since the very beginning, in the early 80s. Dark blue appears for the first time on the jerseys of Pedro Delgado’s Team Reynolds, as it was known between 1983 and 1989, and continues to be seen in 1994 and 2004 on the Banesto jerseys worn by Miguel Indurain and then again on the Movistar jerseys starting in 2011.
“We quickly realized that La Passione and the Movistar Team share a sort of common denominator in their heritage and use of dark blue. More than a simple chromatic coincidence, we can define it as an innate affinity of style and elegance”, continues Giuliano. Both in the imagination of the team’s fans and in La Passione’s color stories, the deep blue color no doubt represents a precise distinctive element. “Deep blue is our institutional color: it is classic, modern and essential. It is not only an elegant tone to see on a cycling kit, but it also represents a rather specific and distinctive way to tell our stories of sports and style”.

The new team kit has been revisited in a modern way. Cyan, the institutional color of the main sponsor, Movistar, and of the last four seasons’ jersey, has become the color of the logo contrasted against a blue background.
“The stylized M in cyan, logo of the sponsor, Movistar, represents the continuity with the team’s recent past. In the new graphics, we have also included some asymmetrical horizontal lines in the same color that add a certain dynamism and modernity to the jersey, without weighing down the design, to create that touch of minimalist elegance characteristic of all La Passione products.
The work of fine-tuning the new graphics was carried out thanks to the important collaboration of Abarca Sports and Telefonica’s management, historical sponsor of the team and company that owns the Movistar brand. “The desire to renew the image and style of the team, which we proposed, was welcomed with great enthusiasm right from the start. Working as a team on this project, with the invaluable support of all the players involved, was truly exciting. We are proud of the result achieved and happy to finally unveil the new jersey”.
“Partnering with La Passione from 2022 is a great step forward for Movistar Team. La Passione is one of the most appealing brands in the cycling industry and Movistar Team is in a long term strategy of becoming the most relevant team in pro cycling. The Movistar Team 2022 by La Passione will become one of the most recognized and desired kit by fans and cycling lovers”.
JP Molinero, CMO Movistar Team.
The start of the technical collaboration with the Movistar Team will also be an opportunity to present the new “P.” symbol, the synthesis of a concept that will be introduced on all our cycling apparel starting in 2022.
